PATCHWORK FABRICS

Dit moet ik toch even laten zien.
Ik heb er een heleboel nieuwe patchworkstofjes bij.
In het leger des heils vond ik deze twee kussenslopen voor 1 Euro. De foto is een beetje flets, want de kleuren zijn eigenlijk veel levendiger.

I have a whole bunch of new patchwork fabrics.
First of all I found those 2 pillowcovers at the salvation army for only 1 Euro. The picture is a bit pale. In fact the colours are much more vivid.

Voor mijn verjaardag kreeg ik deze stofjes van mijn dochter Emilie. Het was echt een hele leuke  verrassing!

For my birthday I received these lovely fabrics from my daughter Emilie.  That was really a very nice surprise.

En omdat ik wil meewerken aan het fantastische project van Leintje, had ik nog meer stofjes nodig en ben ik op jacht gegaan in de gigantische stoffenwinkel: "stoffenverkoop" in Kapellen. Deze winkel heeft een ongelooflijk grote collectie en is bovendien helemaal niet duur. Het duurste stofje dat ik kocht was aan 6 EUR/meter, maar dan wel met een breedte van 160 cm.

Het project van Leintje: "70 keer een blijde toet" wil voor een kindertehuis in Polen 70 quilts maken, zodat elk kind eindelijk eens iets van zichzelf heeft.  Ondertussen is het aantal al wel gegroeid en zijn er dus heel veel helpende handen nodig.

Because I want to help with a project for poor kids in Poland, I was looking for some more fabrics.

The project wants to make at least 70 quilts, so that every kid can have for once something for himself.  The kids are staying at a home until they are 18 and have very little help. Only 40 Euro/kid/month.

I want to make quilt for a boy and choose these fabrics for one side.  These fabrics were really cheap. The most expensive was at 6 EUR/meter with at width of 160 cm.

In dezelfde stoffenwinkel vond ik dit prachtige stofje.  Ik kon er niet aan weerstaan en ben van plan om er een leuke schoenenzak van te maken.  Omdat we steeds verhuizen tussen 2 plaatsen en onze schoenen volgen in een gewone plastic zak, dacht ik dat het toch wel leuk zou zijn om een speciale zak te maken.

In the same shop I found this beautiful fabric. I will make a shoe bag with it. We are always moving between 2 homes and our shoes also.  In stead of a stupid plastic bag, I thought it would be nice to have a special beautiful bag.

En dan kocht ik nog een aantal leuke stofjes voor de cat quilt bos van Ellie's quiltplace

Vorige zondag heb ik blok I9 afgekregen.
Tot nu toe deed ik alles met de naaimachine. Maar dit waren zulke kleine stukjes dat ik besloot het toch maar met de hand te doen.
Ik dacht dat ik dit saai zou vinden, maar eigenlijk is dit best wel leuk zo friemelen met die kleine stukjes stof.

Uiteindelijk ben ik nog altijd niet tevreden met het resultaat. Ik dacht dat het eindelijk wel perfect zou uitkomen, maar toch is het niet zo.
De kleine vierkantjes missen hun hoekjes.
Ik dacht dat ik nochtans heel nauwkeurig was geweest bij het knippen.
Ondertussen heb ik een speciaal quiltliniaaltje gekocht, misschien helpt dit me beter om perfecte lijntjes te tekenen. Ik vond het niet altijd gemakkelijk om precies 6 mm af te meten.

Last sunday I finished square I9 of my mistery quilt.
The first squares where all made with the machine. But this square had such small pieces that I decided to sew by hand. I thought did would be boring, but in fact I liked it to play with all those little pieces.
But I am still not satisfied with the result. I thought that it would be perfect now, but if you look well, you will see that the little squares are missing their corners.
I thought that I had been very carefull when cutting.
But now I gave myself a little quiltliner that helps with drawing 6 mm lines.

MISTERY QUILT

Het is weer even geleden dat ik nog iets van de mistery quilt liet zien.
Dit blokje maakte ik, met veel zuchten en uithalen vorige week :
It's been a while since I wrote something about the mistery quilt.
I made this square last week. It took me quite some time.



Gisteren en eergisteren was het buiten vreselijk regenweer, dus veel tijd om nog eens wat te prutsen.
Eergisteren heb ik alle malletjes gemaakt en de stukjes stof geknipt. Niet te geloven hoeveel tijd daar al in kruipt. Ook begon ik al aan 1 blokje, wat ik gisteren heb afgewerkt. Dankzij de instructies van Lappenleintje was het een fluitje van een cent.

Yesterday and the day before the weather was terrible here, so I had plenty of time to work on my mistery quilt. First I made all the patches. Only this is already much time consuming. Then I started this block, which I finished yesterday. Thanks to the instructions of Lappenleintje, it was quite simple to make.




Toen koos ik een volgend blokje uit, wat naar mijn mening niet te moeilijk kon zijn. Gelukkig wist ik niet dat het me toch wel 5 uur zou kosten alvorens het af was. Ik weet niet of dit normaal is. Maar, het is wel heel leuk om te doen en het resultaat, ondanks dat het niet perfect is, mag er wel zijn. Ik streef ernaar dat alle lijntjes perfect op elkaar passen, maar tot nu toe lukt me dat nog niet echt.
Ik heb heel vaak de stiksels weer terug uitgehaald en dat kost natuurlijk heel veel tijd. Hieronder het resultaat.

Then I chose another square of the mistery quilt, one that I thought would be not too difficult. I did not know that this would take me 5 hours to finish it. Is this normal? But, it is real fun to do it. You must be very concentrated and you just forget everything else. I really want it to be perfect, with the lines nicely matching. Until now I did not succeed, but I hope it will go better by doing it more.
I had to unstitch a lot of patches and that is very timeconsuming. Here he is :

eindelijk ook eens een eigen blog/ finally my own blog

Ik was al lang van plan om ook eens een eigen blog te maken maar zag er wat tegenop en stelde het steeds maar uit.
Maar, sinds vorige week ben ik begonnen aan een 2-jarig project : "de sweet memories mistery quilt". Dit project van lappenleintje, doe ik samen met ongeveer 100 andere dames. Ieder werkt voor zichzelf en zal aan het eind een prachtige quilt hebben.
Elke maand krijgen we een pakketje toegestuurd met ongelooflijk mooie stofjes en nieuwe patroontjes voor de volgende blokken.

De start was in september, maar door een fout adres ben ik pas vorige week kunnen beginnen.

Since quite a long time I wanted to start my own blog, but never had the courage to finally begin. Now, that I have started with a new project, I thought this was the right time to finally do what I had in mind.
This big project, which will get on for 2 years is a mistery quilt, called : sweet memories. It's a project from Lappenleintje and we are working with about 100 other ladies. Everybody is working on her own quilt. Every month we are receiving by post a new package with incredible nice fabrics and new patterns.
I started last week and look here what I already made :
